Aberdeen Passions Plays (APP) was founded in 2011 by members of the Christian community from the North East of Scotland and includes both Christian and non-Christian alike. The company takes its name from its primary purpose of establishing the staging a regular passion play in the North East of Scotland.
To be clear, we are not attempting to tell the last days of Christ's time on Earth in Doric; however, what we are seeking to do is to establish a regular passion play for the North East of Scotland which is physically centred in, or around, the City of Aberdeen (the main city in the North East).
APP benefits greatly from the talents of its company members be they performing, technical or production and is managed by a dedicated steering group. All company members give their time voluntarily and become members purely by being involved.
Easter 2012 saw the company stage its first production "The Aberdeen Passion: One Life Given" at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre in front of audiences in excess of 2200. This was a traditional passion play and involved over one hundred performers through a blend of on-stage action, a live band and choir performing modern songs with lyrics specially written for the production.
APP productions are being operated on a strictly non-profit basis with all involved, with the exception of some professional support we need to hire in, giving their time and talents free of charge. The modest ticket price and any donations or sponsorship monies are solely to cover the venue hire (and associated costs), music copyright fees and material costs. Any income to the project over and above this will are distributed between locally active charities. For the 2012 production APP was very pleased to be able to support Teen Challenge North East Scotland and Street Pastors (Aberdeen).
